Hackathon Summary

The LazyHacks 2024 hackathon was an event organized by high school students for their peers, focusing on the unique theme of laziness to inspire creativity and collaboration. The event attracted developers to participate, with a total of 21 projects submitted. Teams consisted of 1-4 high school students, did not include organizers or mentors, but allowed external suggestions to improve project results.

Participants competed in multiple prize categories. Overall prizes included AULA mechanical keyboards and mice and COCONISE gaming microphones. Education prizes were Rocketbooks with bonus pens and tickets to the National Gallery. Home prizes offered multi-functional bedside lamps and tickets to Room Escape Ottawa, and beginner prizes were JBL Go 4 speakers.

The judging criteria focused on innovation and problem solving, in line with the theme of the event. LazyHacks 2024 successfully fostered collaboration among young developers, encouraged fun and creativity, and strengthened a sense of community. The hackathon provided a platform for young talents to showcase technical solutions and innovative projects.

LazyHacks 2024 showcased a variety of innovative projects centered around simplifying everyday life. High school students demonstrated their skills in various categories and were recognized through the following awards:

Overall Prize Winners

• Slay In A Snap : A fashion tech app that advances sustainability by providing virtual wardrobes and garment visualizations through machine learning and image masking, while focusing on mindful fashion choices and inclusivity despite technical challenges.

Beginner Prize Winners

• Sloth Clock : A productivity tool that uses a virtual pet and combines Pomodoro, to-do list, and calendar features to promote task completion by maintaining the health of your pet.

Education Prize Winners

• T 2 M (Talk 2 Me) : Simplifies AI interactions through voice commands, converts speech to text, uses the Gemini AI API, and supports multiple programming languages for effective user engagement.

At-Home Prize Winners

• LazyReps : Track gym repetitions to improve efficiency through Movenet Single Pose Lightning Model, and use Google Sheets API for data recording. This project is developed using React.js and FastAPI.
