A review of HackPrinceton Fall 2024 Hackathon

Hackathon Summary

The HackPrinceton Fall 2024 Hackathon was held at Princeton University from November 8 to 10. The event attracted 238 developers who registered 99 projects, and participants participated in workshops, mentoring sessions, and presentations during the 36-hour event. The Hackathon has four main tracks: Education + Engagement, Healthcare, Finance, and Sustainability, encouraging diverse and innovative ideas.

In addition to the main directions, seventeen challenges provided by sponsors were offered as bounties, adding a competitive element to the event. Participants submitted their projects through a public GitHub repository and presented a two-minute presentation to the judges on the last day. One of the highlights was the effective project demo, which showcased major ideas from different industries under time constraints and increased the visibility of the project.

Prizes were a major motivating factor, with the overall champion prize being a set of AirPod Max, which will be given to each member of the winning team, and the second place team receiving an Xbox Series S console. HackPrinceton Fall 2024 played an important role in skill development, collaboration and creative solutions, showcasing active participation from both experienced and novice participants.

Bartimaeus: Stealing Vision Back – This project helps blind people navigate in space by providing audio navigation using smartphone cameras, YOLO, and OpenCV, innovatively using AI for accurate path planning and object recognition.

PillPal Pro – A smart box solution that ensures elderly patients follow their medication habits through an ESP 32 microcontroller, tracking and notification capabilities, integrated 3D printed housing and Firebase functionality.

ReCall.ai – This project uses AI and wearable technology to recognize faces for people with cognitive impairment, support social interactions, and provide cognitive health insights across multiple facilities.

HealthSync – Enhances hospital coordination by assigning patient urgency scores and leveraging peer-to-peer networking and advanced data security for secure, real-time information exchange.

Medbank – Provides a personalized health wallet to manage medical information and insurance details, using AI for smart insurance processing and geospatial analysis for provider matching.

HormoniQ – Solving the challenges of PCOS diagnosis by analyzing hormone patterns in health records through a machine learning tool, providing healthcare providers with the possibility of early intervention.

World Translationator 5000 – Using quantum natural language processing to accurately translate to solve language barriers in healthcare.

CrystalMath – An AI-driven platform for visualizing math problems with step-by-step animations and voice narration, using Claude model computation and AWS hosting.

Stratify – provides an AI-driven stock backtesting tool that optimizes investment strategies through detailed analysis and user-friendly simulations.

Asteroid Audit – Provides tax education through a gamified experience, integrates with Unity for game development, and uses custom algorithms for visual tax estimates.

Orbital Finance – Use AI voice assistant technology for real-time customer engagement and deep data analytics with MATLAB and NLP to help grow your business.

Sustainability Prize Winners

WasteWise – Analyzes waste data using computer vision and the GPT-4 API to memandu sustainable consumer habits through brand and recyclability ratings.

SustainAI – An AI-driven platform that provides personalized sustainable lifestyle recommendations based on user data, leveraging MATLAB for contextual data personalization.

Scraply – simplifies deep learning education by providing a drag-and-drop interface for building neural networks, with algorithm suggestions and gamified learning capabilities.
